APOSTOLIC TRUTH
In this lesson we will look at the doctrine of the Church given by Jesus Christ Himself:
Acts 2:1-4
"And when the day of Pentecost was fully come they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as off a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."
The disciples were all filled with the Holy Ghost and begin to speak with other tongues in the upper room at Jerusalem. This was fulfilled in the following scriptures: (Luke 24:49, Acts 1:8).
Acts 2:14
"But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them. Y men of Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:"
The gospel began to be preached at Jerusalem first.
Acts 2:37-38
"Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to he rest of the apostles. Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Then Peter aid unto them, Repent and be baptize every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
The people must believe, repent, be baptized in Jesus' name, for the remission of sins, and receive the Holy Ghost. (Mark 16:16; Matt. 28:19; Luke 24:47-49; Acts 1:8; John 3:5, 7:37-39)
Acts 8:4-7
"Therefore they that scattered abroad went every where PREACHING THE WORD. Then Phillip went down to Samaria, (Acts 1:8) and preached Christ unto them. And the people with ONE ACCORD gave heed unto those things which Phillip spake, hearing and seeing the miracle which e did. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed." (Mark 16:17-18)
Acts 8:12
"But when they believed Phillip preaching the things concerning the Kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, hey were baptized, both men and women." (v.17) "Then laid they their hands on them, and they receive the Holy Ghost." (Luke 24:45-47; Acts 1:8; 2:39; Mark 16:15-16; Matt. 28:19).
Acts 10:34-37,42
"Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
But in every nation he that feareth him an worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;"
To the Gentiles, going into all the world. Peter went to Caesarea, to Cornellius the Gentile, to carry the word.
Romans 10:12;1:12-16
"Ten Peter opened his mouth, and said, of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter o person."
"But in every nation, he that fearth Him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with Him. The Word which God sent unto the Children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all;) That Word I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached,... And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead." (Acts 10:34-39,42; Rom. 10:12; 1:14-16).
Acts 10:44-48; the Gentiles believed and were filled with the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:4,1:8,11,15; John 7:37-38). They too were baptized in Jesus' name (acts 2:38; Mark 16:16)
....All these Biblical historical accounts show us that the disciples implemented the Great Commission just as Jesus commanded them to do.
Acts 417-20
"But that is spread no further among the people; let us straitly threaten them, that they speak hencefoth to no man in this name! And they called them; and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the Name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said unto them, whether it be right in the sight of God to harken unto you more than unto God, JUDGE YE, For we cannot but SPEAK the things which we have SEEN and HEARD."
We conclude therefore in saying that to grasp a complete understanding of the Great Commission, we must consider ALL the scriptures relating to the subject.
1. preaching and teaching the gospel to every creature.
2. Faith and belief in the gospel.
3. Repentance from sins.
4. Baptism in the Name of Jesus Christ.
5. Baptism of the Holy Ghost speaking in other Tongues.
6. signs and Miracles following the believers.
